“People think that dogs in shelters are broken …

But let me give you a different reality. Let me teach you how to read a dog.”
— Cesar Millan
Millan Helps New Owners Survive the First Crucial Weeks after Adopting a Dog in New Special Premiering Sunday, November 3, at 10 PM ET/PT on Nat Geo WILD.
(Washington, D.C. – October 10, 2013) World-renowned dog behaviorist Cesar Millan is back doing the work he feels most passionately about: helping difficult dogs find happy homes with loving families. There are millions of dogs in U.S. shelters just waiting for the right owner to walk in and scoop them up. Sadly, many adoptions fail within in the first two weeks when behavior patterns and dynamics between dog and owner don’t gel.
Luckily for hopeful owners, Millan is on a mission to change that. In his new Nat Geo WILD special, Cesar Millan: Doggie Nightmares, premiering Sunday, November 3, 2013, at 10 p.m. ET/PT, he follows two households as they take the giant leap of adopting a new dog and walks them through the process, guiding them in the right direction. For more information, visit www.natgeowild.com and www.cesarsway.com, and follow us on Twitter at @NGC_PR and @cesarmillan.
The Nightmares:
First, a family’s four-year-old son says he’s ready for his very own pet, but with an existing dog in the house, not to mention an infant, his dream rescue soon turns into a doggie nightmare when the new pet lashes out and the boy retaliates. Next, a mother and daughter want to adopt a companion for their misbehaving Yorkshire terrier, but end up with a mutt with serious potty training issues and a crippling fear of the stairs.
The Investigation:
Millan lays down the framework for a trial adoption. The prospective owners have two weeks to get trained and ready to provide a forever home. Each of the families’ houses are tricked out with a high-tech surveillance system that captures everyone’s behavior and gets a clear picture of the situation. The surveillance offers a raw and real look at the natural dynamic between dog and owner when they aren’t focused on performing for the cameras, often with surprising results.
The Process:
Halfway through the trial, both families meet with Millan to evaluate their progress in a state-of-the-art training center. He reviews the tapes to point out exactly what mistakes they made in these critical first few days. Then, Millan works his magic, identifying the problems and offering solutions before it’s too late. Just when these pups’ new parents are ready to throw in the leash, Millan offers them hope in the form of hands-on training and practical advice.
The Verdict:
Both families see huge improvements when Millan is around, but can they implement his advice at home? Watch the situations transform as a new relationship emerges between dog and owner. Some problems get better, while others are still a challenge. At the end of the two weeks, the families meet with Millan again to make a final decision. Can he turn these doggie nightmares into lifelong bonds, or are some relationships just not meant to be? Find out as the owners decide to either cement the adoption or hand Millan the leash and walk away.

Dog Whisperer: The Final Season Premieres Saturday, July 7, 2012, at 8 PM ET/PT

(WASHINGTON, D.C. — June 6, 2012)  After more than 150 episodes, thousands of audition tapes and hundreds of successful rehabilitations, Cesar Millan today announced via Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/cesar.millan) that the final season of Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan will premiere Saturday, July 7, 2012, with back-to-back episodes beginning at 8 PM ET/PT on Nat Geo WILD. The ninth and final season features 12 all-new episodes and is jam packed with the biggest stars, most exciting destinations and fastest cars ever featured on the series. And, of course, there will be dogs. Lots and lots of dogs.

Cesar gets a jolly good start to season nine with four Olympic-sized episodes filmed in London. But his time there isn’t all garden parties and high tea. He finds out that dogs can be a royal pain even in the land of kings and queens. Once back on this side of the pond, Cesar heads to the Jersey Shore to check out the “situation” for three families that can’t find any fun in the sun because of their out of control dogs.

The stars also come out shining for Cesar’s final season of Dog Whisperer. He helps actor Kelsey Grammer and his wife Kayte with their problem pooches George and Elvis, and shows celebrity fitness trainer Jillian Michaels how to work out her barking bad boy Richard’s problem behavior. The rubber meets the road when Cesar joins NASCAR drivers Greg Biffle and Kevin Harvick for a lap around Daytona, stopping with Greg and his wife Nicole at a local dog shelter on the way and helping Kevin and his wife DeLana with their yappy Chihuahua, Lo. Finally, bunnies and puppies learn how to play nice together when Cesar drops by the Playboy Mansion West for a special visit with the legend himself, Hugh Hefner, whose King Charles spaniel, Charlie, is  getting roughed up by Miss November’s tiny terror, Willa.

“I am so thankful to all the Dog Whisperer fans that embraced the show over the years and made it such a huge success,” said Cesar.  “It was bittersweet filming the final episodes, but they are a lot of fun and turned out to be some of the best cases ever. And to my biggest fans, never fear, you haven’t seen the last of me yet!”

Encore airings of the entire Dog Whisperer catalog of episodes will continue on Nat Geo WILD and Nat Geo Mundo in the United States and around the globe. Cesar is currently in production on his new Nat Geo WILD competition series Leader of the Pack, due to premiere in early 2013.

Dog Whisperer has been nominated for an Emmy for Best Reality Series three times, and has won the People’s Choice Award for Favorite Animal Show.

Pregnant and homeless, Lenie Pictou has the amazing opportunity to move into a newly opened women’s shelter that will take both her and her pit bull, Tucker. CBS announced today the new reality series DOGS IN THE CITY, starring New York City dog guru Justin Silver, a master at resolving issues between canines and their owners – no matter whose behavior is at fault.  The series will premiere Wednesday, May 30 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

In Manhattan, Justin Silver is known as the “go-to guy” for all things dog-related.  He has a creative and instinctive ability to connect with his canine customers while solving dilemmas for their two-legged masters.  In each episode, he meets with clients who present a range of relationship problems, lifestyle changes or domestic issues – from a couple looking to move in together, but she’s terrified of his golden retriever, to a recently divorced couple whose dog is having a rough time adjusting to joint custody.  Justin gets as imaginative as necessary to reach a satisfying resolution, often finding that the owners can be a special breed themselves.

“Dogs are at the center of the story here, but this is a show that reveals as much about human nature as man’s best friend,” said Executive Producer Carol Mendelsohn.  “Dogs are often a lightning rod for their owners’ emotions and dysfunction at home.  Justin has an amazing gift to break down these complex issues with incredible heart, humor and, sometimes, much-needed candor.”

Justin Silver has been taking care of dogs and their owners for more than a decade.  A dog trainer, behaviorist and owner of a pet care company, Silver is also a comedian and founder of Funny for Fido, a nonprofit that raises money for homeless animals by producing a yearly stand-up comedy event.  Silver firmly believes that every dog can be trained to be a wonderful companion by working on issues calmly and confidently with both his four- and two-legged clients.

Julie Weitz, Carol Mendelsohn, Jen O’Connell and Nick Emmerson are executive producers. Gerry Greengrass serves as co-executive producer. DOGS IN THE CITY is produced by CBS’s Raquel Productions Inc. in association with Shed Media US Inc. and Carol Mendelsohn Productions.
